Carving its way through the Iron Mountains, the Chrudimka River creates an unforgettable romantic backdrop. It can be navigated from the dam at Hamry, all the way to where it opens into the Elbe River. The upper section that flows through meadows and forests to the dam is for experienced boaters only, and is navigable in the spring or after rainfall. The middle section, which is surrounded by a lovely forested valley, flows to the Svídnice dam, and its navigability is dependent upon the water supply to the dam; it is for experienced boaters. For this reason, experts primarily recommend the lower section that flows through meadows and lowlands that then opens into the Elbe River, which is suitable for beginners, and can be navigated all the way to Chrudim, depending on the water supply to the dam, after which it is usually navigable year-round. This river is dammed in several places with reservoirs – at Seč, Křižanovice, and the Práčov surge tank. The upper and middle sections boast two protected areas: the Žďárské vrchy and Iron Mountains Protected Landscape Areas.
